Museum of the City of New York has just launched a new collection portal- 50,000 images of New York here many not only from the early days of photography but also New York City.
Its an amazing resource, take the time to have a browse around.
My first shoot for good friends Pamela and Stephanie Katch. These lovely ladies are the dynamic sister duo behind The Katch Design Company and Katch ID. Shop here for any of their designs. Below is the Supreme Beam(s) I photographed for them.
Written by a Kiwi aka New Zealand local,
he (de)scribes himself as-
Once upon a time there was an innocent young fellow who got a dose of graphite, was lead astray and became a lead junkie, with way too many mechanical pencils.
Good reviews, great search ability, Dave's Top listings, lead reviews and so much more.
From the musings on the site and recommended links I secured said gifts... oh, and picked up another for myself.
After shooting my Summer Streets video,
posting it here and then having it re-posted on the
Time Out New York blog here.
Time Out approached me to shoot a time lapse / stop motion piece for them at New York's prime Graffiti epicenter -
5Pointz: “The Institute of Higher Burnin”
If you don't know anything about 5Pointz check out the website
Shot on September 11 at the International Meeting of Styles.
Thanks to all the artists who didn't mind me shooting them work and everyone else who was so welcoming.
I saw a really vibrant and respectful community (organizers, artists and friends) working really hard but enjoying themselves. - Lots of smiles!!
Respect to Jonathan Cohen / Meres One saw him uniting lots of good people.
Straying away from Australian made films for a minute I thought I'd post this one..
'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'
Directed and written (screenplay) by Andrew Dominik who is New Zealand born "Australian" (we like to often claim Kiwis as our own, he also wrote and directed "Chopper") its beautifully shot using lots of tilt /shift lens movements and vaseline on the lens for amazing focus effects.. Director of Photography : Roger Deakins who's credits list alone is massive.
Summer Streets in New York, NY, for 3 weekends in August -where a 6 mile stretch of North- South running streets from the Brooklyn Bridge up to 72nd Street and then into Central Park is closed to vehicle traffic. See the Route
The streets feel empty even though they are open to cyclists, runners, rollerblading and anyone just wanting to stroll along.
So much fun having a huge vacant street as your playground.
I shot this trial stop motion video from my apartment in Brooklyn up to Central Park, actually I did two laps but decided to only show the first leg. Footage is still a little RAW! and none of this has been shot on video, its all still images edited together using video editing software. Its not finished yet but wanted to put it up so some people could see it... Will let you know when the finished version is on Youtube and Vimeo
Look out for Grand Central and the tunnel around 1:30 - such a fun part of the ride.
I've been playing around with shooting video for a while now, nothing too fancy, just short clips on the point and shoot and I guess I really jumped on it when I needed to update my still camera and went down the Canon 5d Mark II road.
I thought I should set up an Vimeo account for all the finished projects, especially if they are HD.
Account is here- Vimeo - Jason Hamilton
and I also re-signed for a Youtube account, actually I'd an account for years, since it started out,
but it was a random avatar name which had no relationship to my actual name - how would people find me??
Little morning test with Joyce Sangirardi, a Stylist who contacted me after she saw my website.
She had a great idea of instead of just meeting for a coffee we could do a small test and see how we worked together.
In the process of working out dates to shoot and where, we found out we only live a short walk from each other, here's hoping that will mean we can test more often. Two shots for an ingredients type page.
You can find more of Joyce's work and details here.
Made on a small budget, this endearing story of an Australian family trying to keep their Castle.

Directed and written by Andrew Dominik who is New Zealand born "Australian" (we like to often claim Kiwis as our own)

She has another showing coming up as part of the Head On photo festival at the Iain Dawson Gallery in Paddington, Sydney. 18-29 May 2010 Leila's Images can be found here and there Oh, and look out for a solo show in December 2010. Congrats!!
Alissa Thomas a great stylist I worked with many times in Sydney for ACP magazines is now freelance and busy! She found a great niche market working with kids.
My Mum is coming to NY!! For someone who doesn't like flying at all, it's a huge feat. Almost directly on opposite side of the world, it's a long flight, just over a whole day worth of travel, around 20 hours or airtime- not including stop overs. I'm excited to show her the city I love living in. Then my Dad gets in roughly 3-4 weeks after. Will be great to have them both here.
I can officially put it out on the world wide .... I was signed to BRUMLCONLON ARTISTS AGENTa little while back and have been in the process of having everything ready for the launch of (as Jean and Kathy put it) my "mini campaign" Here's the first card off the rank..
At a pivotal point in my high school years I was torn between an Art v a Wood Technology stream. I was always more passionate about art so went in that direction but always continued with wood working as a hobby.
Years later I met Sam Harris, who had just started his cabinet making business, Square Peg Woodworks,
at the time I was Photo assisting and work was a little slow so when Sam asked if I'd like to work with him I jumped at the chance.
At times it was hard work but we also had a lot of fun, I loved having the satisfaction of having objects come into being in my own hands and seeing the finished cabinets or whatever we were working on in situ when finished.
New email signature... finally... after about 5 attempts I worked out how to have hyperlinks in my signature that didn't come up as the standard blue, well at least until someone replies to it or forwards the email on. Although, i have had to change the colour of the standard text so you can see it here...
Marcus is someone who's styling work I have admired for years.
Always inspiring and working with great photographers I enjoy seeing Marcus' work and his often eclectic mix of old and new.
We share mutual friends from days gone by back in Sydney and although we both have vague recollections of actually meeting way back then, we "officially" meet through Edwina White in New York.
We see each other occasionally but I hope that we can work with each other soon.
Have a look at his blog for inpiration, tips and working annecdotes.
Started in August 2009 long after Alan Waddell was crusining the streets, Louise Hawson realised she hadn't even ventured in many of the suburbs in her own city. Louise decided to visit a new suburb each week documenting its beauty, culture and people. 52 suburbs blog link
Its a great look at Sydney and often makes me nostalgic as I've actually been to many of the suburbs Louise has explored when I was working as a photojournalist for various newspapers across Sydney.
THROUGH is the motto on my family's Scottish crest. As a kid my grandmother used to tell us that the symbol on the crest ( a saw cutting through an Oak tree) came from when Alexander Hamilton cut down a huge Oak to stop the Brittish invasion of Scotland. Such a cool story- up to a few years ago I still believed it until I did some research and found out that A. Hamilton disguised himself as a wood cutter to escape the chasing English! On my search for the information I also found an old english spelling - hence the THROU
Thanks John, love your work, have a look at more of John's work. John Reardon Tattoos
